note values within a measure
The score I'm creating has an unusual measure, at least for me, and I'm using an original score as an example. In one measure of 4:4 time, the first 2 beats are a half rest. Then, within the 2nd two beats, there are two 3rds (intervals), (the first is an E and a G, and the next is an F and an A) that appear as half notes (hollow) connected by 3 lines (like 32nds) between both stems. These two connected thirds take up a value of the second half note within the measure. How do I use the tuplets feature to notate that? Thanks so much. This is for a flute/piccolo part.

I suspect that what you are seeing is a tremolo. See here for how to make one with MuseScore. https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/tremolo.
If that doesn't help please come back and if possible attach a picture (even hand drawn) of what you are trying to achieve. (A picture is worth a thousand words).

Problem solved! It appears to be a tremolo after all, even though the original score doesn't say so. Thank you so much.

If I'm understanding correctly, it does say so - that's exactly what the notation you described (half notes connected by beams) means.
