invisible notes affect staff spacing
i'm using the trick i've seen recommended elsewhere on this forum to get an arpeggio spanning two staves to be treated as a single chord: add the full chord in another voice, put an arpeggio mark on it, hide it, turn off "Play" for the notes in the first voice. the spacing is weird - if i turn off View Invisibles, the measure looks exactly the same just without the light gray notes.
for comparison, here's another measure where i use the same method, but it doesn't seem to affect the spacing at all, as i would expect:

If you want to use this method first add a Staff spacer fixed down from the palette
But you probably don't mean vertical spacing.

yeah i mean both. the spacer fixes the staff height, but there is still a blank space between the arpeggio mark and the actual note where the (invisible) note lives.
Additional trick, use the "fix to line" property on those invisible high notes.
Upside, you don't need to duplicate the notes in the bottom staff if you fix them to the current top visible note line.
