cant input notes with midi keyboard
Dell xps13
Ubuntu 20.04
Musescore 3.6.2
Alesis Q49 usb keyboard
I can't get musescore to respond to note entry via the Q49. I can enter notes through either the qwerty or virtual keyboards. I tried using Jack in case that was the problem - set i/o to Jack - but that didn't seem to help. I'm not a Jack expert, so maybe I didn't make the connections properly.
Preferences -> Note input is set to enable-midi-input which is the default apparently.
I connected the keyboard before starting Musescore.
Qsynth/Jack responds to the keyboard correctly so it's not likely to be the keyboard causing the problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is your midi keyboard actually recognized as midi input in preferences?

Not recognised in any Musescore preferences, although Jack likes it :(

I also tried it with an old Yamaha MM8 - musescore doesn't see that either. Has anybody else had success with using a controller keyboard? Am I missing some key action?

Yes, it normally works, although some combinations of OS, driver, and hardware have been known to fail. Assuming you are using 64-bit bit build of MuseScore, be sure you have 64-bit device drivers as well.
