frustrating "greyed out audio playback" bug
hi everybody,
i am seeking some help with a longtime issue that has rendered musescore 3 essentially useless for me. one day upon launching the application, i was unable to select input or output devices in preferences, play and stop transports were greyed out, as well as the synthesizer and mixer tabs in the "view" menu. i am running musescore 3 (most recent version as of jan 2022) on a macbook pro, i have reinstalled the application multiple times, reset preferences to default, and reset factory settings to no avail. please let me know if anybody has been able to solve this issue or knows where i could find an answer. thank you !!!
edit: am running musescore version 3.6.2.548020600 on macos catalina version 10.15.7, attempting to run sound through either the laptops internal audio device or an external audio interface (duet usb). i am able to see api, device, midi input, and midi output options in my preferences but the boxes are greyed out with no options available to select

was about to edit my original post - i have already run through all steps and am still encountering the issue
still looking for a solution here, any help would be wonderful
UPDATE: for anybody else who is experiencing this issue, i have discovered a strange workaround which is by downloading the musescore 3.5 libportaudio.2.dylib file from the thread linked below, showing package contents of my musescore application and replacing the existing libportaudio.2.dylib file with the 3.5 one. playback has now returned and fingers crossed it will stay that way ... https://musescore.org/en/node/320037

I assume you have a MIDI device connected? Be sure it is connected and turned on before starting MuseScore, and be sure you have the latest and most architecture-relevant drivers for it (eg, 32 vs 64 bit, Intel vs ARM, etc).
