Changing sequence of instrument groups
Most of the scores that I work on are confined to a small group of instruments. I have tagged these instruments to put them in a new grouping in my instruments.xml file that I call "Preferred". Is there a way to have it appear as the default on the Instruments dialogue in place of "Common"?
I have managed to position it almost at the top of the drop-down list, but I would like to go just one step further and have it as the default.

I'm not aware of a way, but note also, the instruments.xml mechanism is going away for MuseScore 4 anyhow. Any reason not to simply use a template for your preferred instrumentation? You can of course then simply delete the instruments not needed for any given score.

No reason at all - I was experimenting with instruuments.xml to see what I could do with it, but I'm happy to use templates in the way you suggest.
