Musescore playback bug
I installed the new version of Musescore 4.0 yesterday and immediately noticed that the playback feature didn't seem to function correctly. When playing back sounds the audio always buzzes, is choppy, distorted, echo-y, and slowed down in a very uncanny way which makes it impossible to work with. I notice however that the problems completely disappear as soon as I open the mixer. Only when I have the mixer open the audio plays back correctly, which sucks because I'd prefer to be able work while not having half my view obstructed at all times. You all have made amazing improvements with this release, but are there any fixes to this issue I'm experiencing?
Thanks beforehand!

Ditto in all respects, and very disappointed about having to have the mixer window open! Why on earth is this the case? Actually, even with the mixer window open, the same interference appears if I do anything else on the computer like log into a website or activity that grabs the processing power of the computer.
Also, should I install MuseSounds separately?

I'm facing the same issue.
I was excited to get back to Muse, but these bugs are F annoying.
I've noticed now that having the mixer open does not completely get rid of the problems. The playback is still delayed and a bit slower than it should be. There is still that static effect on some notes sometimes as well. I hope there will be some kind of fix releasing for this sometime soon, or at least some kind of reason for us to know why it's happening.
Happening to me as well, hoping this gets resolved soon... makes using the app quite annoying
I have exactly the same problem. However opening the mixer seems to help play back. For the time being I have returned to using Musescore three where this bug does not exist!!
If you are on Widows, try some of these adjustments. https://musescore.org/en/node/339915
This bug seems to have only gotten worse for me. The mixer doesn't even help now, and playback is practically nonfunctional. Followed all the steps mentioned in the comment above. Also, something new.
My default audio device in Musescore is set to my Focusrite interface, which connects my speakers. This has worked great in the past with Musescore 3. However, switching my Windows default audio device to my headphones but keeping Musescore with my speakers creates an interesting change in the playback---it seems to pitch the playback up 3 or 4 octaves for whatever reason. I have no clue why this happens, but just thought I would mention it.

The fact that even with the use of your Focusrite, you are having playback problems, is interesting to me.
Even my woefully under powered Surface Go plays back correctly with the use of my Focusrite. As well as a much cheaper interface. Everyone's system is different, of course. But I can't help but feel that something is off on yours.
Evidence suggests that MS4 is very much tied to system default settings. I'm not surprised that things are odd, or work at all, when have two different devices active.
Hi, i had a similar issue! What i did is; go to display in your menu. Go to Synthesizer and click on the
button i mention in the file attachment...
Let me know if it worked for you !
Good luck :)

there is not one menu called synthesizer in musecore 4
What I did was completely reinstall Muse Sounds, then quit MuseScore and Muse Hub (Task Manager), reopen it and then do View / Playback setup / Muse Sounds. It probably could be easier, but it worked for me.
