What is the function of bent arrow or "new file" greyed icon at the end of the stave?
Mu4
I imported a .pdf. It generally functions OK.
But At the end of each line are these icons, (image attached). If I rt click I have the option to cut, copy, paste, swap, delete, select, edit element.
THe "New file" icon seems to have the same functions as the bent arrow thing.
If I click to delete, 3 bars are taken from the next line and squashed into the line I am on. The notes in the next line, now only 1 bar, are stretched to fill the whole line.
What's going on?

That is a system break. It is like a line break in a text document. They don't print and you can select and delete them if they are in the wrong place. You can add your own to force a new system by puttin your cursor in a measure and hitting return.

As I said, you can put system breaks wherever you want. If you want to force more onto the last line (system) then put a system break somewhere on the previous system so that it breaks there and the remaining measures move to the next system.
