The bigger the score, the slower the software

• Aug 24, 2023 - 01:48

Hello,
I'm working on a score of 700 measures for full orchestra (single movement) and the software is awfully slow compared to Finale (same score imported to both software, Finale has nearly no latency, whatever I do, whereas MuseScore is slow for all, even just adding a note takes nearly 1s).
Working only on 50 measures is ok, then adding more and more measures I could see the software becoming slower and slower and now with 700 bars, it's impossible to work efficiently.
If you can do something...
Thanks.

PS: I have a recent computer with Intel i7 processor, 16Go RAM, OS Windows 10 Version 2009 or later, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 4.1.1-232071203, revision: e4d1ddf

I don't have a score anywhere near that long. So I took one of my orchestra scores and copied it over and over to about 680 measures. I experience no lag selecting or adding notes.
I have a similar computer to yours. You don't mention if you have an SSD.

You really will benefit from an SSD.

My ancient Lenovo laptop was upgraded by removing the CD drive and fitting a large SSD in its place. As a result I can run MS4 without problems, whereas before (with MS3) any long full-orchestra score ran very slowly during editing and note input.
