So, it's been a year, and I still don't have an answer, so I figured I should clarify. The problem is as follows: I want a the first chair cello to play a solo. The ordinary way to do this is simply to write "solo" above the staff, and normally the first chair will take it. No other members of the orchestra will play until they see "tutti" marked in the score, then everyone does. However, there is no "solo" text palette, nor is there a "tutti" text palette. Is there a way to force the playback to play a solo from the sectional staff? Without this, I'm worried I'll overbalance the scoring for the rest of the orchestra.

Are you using Musescore 4?

You can use the "change instrument" text style. Just place it e.g. on the note that you want to start the solo on, select "Violoncello (solo)" or whatever it's called in the menu, and change the text to how you like it (I usually make it look just like any other staff text). When you want the solo to end, do the same thing, but select "Violoncellos (section)" or however they have it. Hope this helps let me know if you need any clarification
