It's not really clear, or lacks precision. You have a Guitar + Tab linked staff score that you set to small staves (via Part/Stave Properties, or in Instruments panel).
Then you change the standard Guitar staff to TAB, and you observe (I also observe) that this staff returns to its initial size, while “Small Staff” is still checked. Or is it something else?

Sorry, I'm making exercises for piano and guitar players. what I really want is the grand staff to be linkable to a tab (seems like it is not intended for that because linking is instrument based) (I don't want the 8va bassa added).
but yeah I just wanted to see a smaller guitar and tab line but when I selected the small stave for tab it just reverts to treble, not a big deal, maybe no one uses small tab lol

I don't see that, or not yet, or I miss something.
Important: which version of Musescore are you running?
And can you attach the score, or simply a selection of few measures (then menu File/Save selection) to see what happens for you.
