My score has disappeared
My score appears grayed out on the right side of the screen. It is separated by a thin vertical line from the space where it is usually displayed. It cannot be edited.

That was great. Both files work.
Do you have any idea what happened originally?
I would love to know how you did this.
Thank you very much for all this.

I don't know why this happened. I just did a few tests like delete parts, set zoom and Page View, export as xml and reopen. Apparently the enlargement of the page was huge, just try bringing it to zero from the controls in the lower right corner.
Switch to Page View mode before saving..

"Do you have any idea what happened originally?"
The problem was that you'd added a page break at the very end of your score (which you didn't need) and, what's more, it was placed just before a horizontal frame - image below.
You alone must know what you wanted to do here?
In Page View, this wasn't really a problem, as the score was displayed correctly. In Vertical Continuous View, however, the score was completely off.
And so, the solution was to remove this horizontal frame in Page View, or to remove the last page break (which you had... hidden by unticking "Show Formatting" in menu View / Show)
See now (after removing the page break and horizontal frame, which also seem unnecessary here) : 1Kummer Flute Duet Op 116 Part_2 uneditable.mscz

Thank you for the explanation of the cause of the problem. I have no idea why or how I managed to insert those two options where I did. But at least I know to be more careful about placement and understanding the consequences of "trying something." I really appreciate your help.

I apologize for the time it took to get back here (I am still learning to navigate the site).
THANK YOU for the help. Both files worked perfectly and I have completed the project I had set out for myself: to bring some out-of-publication pieces back to the public. They are quite pleasant and even challenging when played "at speed". They add to a rather limited selection of flute duets.
