Something similar to Notion Performance Mode/NTempo Mode

• Mar 7, 2025 - 20:31

Hello,
I'd love to see something similar to the live performance mode that Notion has (See here for an overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heUCDtBt0F0&t=135s). I've been playing with it for an upcoming performance and it's been super useful to have some sort of dynamic accompaniment where we don't have access to a live orchestra. Anyone have any thoughts on this one?

As nice as that would be, MuseScore is not a DAW. MuseScore can't even playback slurs. As well as dozens of other things that might be more important. Maybe.

Totally agree with you. MuseScore is not a DAW, but neither is Notion. Both are notation apps and each one certainly has their own issues with playback. I would say, however, that at the moment MuseScore's playback is equally as good as Notion and in some cases better. With automation features coming in some future update (I thought I read they are aiming for later this year, but I could be wrong), MuseScore playback will only continue to improve. The aim of this feature isn't to replace a replace a human orchestra. I don't think anything can do that, even with really good samples and programming. At least for me, this is more about providing more natural accompaniment for singers so you aren't held back by the rigidity of backing tracks. And it's fun to tinker with. I certainly appreciate you chiming in!

Anyway, all I mean is that Notion is designed to do that. I suspect that MuseScore would need a major re-write. I understand about the rigidity of a backing track. Up to a point. A conductor visually speeds up or slows down. Someone controlling the master app can't be seen. Everyone has to watch their own screen. Maybe too much.

Just kind of thinking out loud. There may or may not be something dependable about a known backing track especially if it is well made. I.E. Musical.

Or not. I'll have to ponder it.
