ties

In prior versions you were able to tie 2 notes together where the first note did not have the full value needed to tie to the second note, which was very convenient. How would I be able to this currently? Thanks

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "first note did not have the full value needed to tie to the second note."

Enter the tied note this way, for the attached example: Tap 5, enter the quarter note. Tap 6, to specify the half note, but do not enter a pitch. Tap the T key, and your tied note is entered.

Please see attachment for simple example.
Say I wanted to tie the 3 notes of the triplet to the chord in the 2nd beat. The C works because it is the right value, but the E and G won't tie to the 2nd beat because they are not the full required value. This was possible in earlier versions but doesn't work anymore, it would require adding another voice to the E and G.
Thanks!

I think what OP is looking for is called "laissez vibrer", often labeled "l.v.". I remember seeing several threads about it in the past few weeks, but cannot find any of them. It's supposed to have its own button on the toolbar in 4.5. (I can't look for it though, because the computer I installed 4.5.1 on died tragically.)

I think this may be the discussion you saw https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/27445

From this you will see that the method of adding ties to non adjacent notes has changed. You now have to CTRL+CLICK on each of the note heads you want tied before pressing T. I am not a fan of this change but apparently it was done to avoid confusion when users hit the T by accident. It was so much easier to select the arpeggio as a range and press T to tie all the notes to the following chord. Protecting fumble fingers slows down the nimble fingers.

Thanks for the answers. It worked for 1 note but not another one - I realized it was trying to tie to from a 1st voice to a 2nd voice note though they are the same pitch, so had to use a slur.
I don't see a button to activate for this comment: "it does have its own button in the tool bar. You do have to activate it."
Another related question is how can I add a plain note stem to the first note to show that the note value is longer?
