Why does 8va fill up entire measure when I only select the first half of notes?
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I select a group of notes in the measure and then drag the 8va sign for those notes, but the line covers the entire measure and I can't figure out how to resize the line. See attached photos

You have to select a group of notes and then double-click (not drag) the 8va sign in the palette.

NB: for information, you can also resize this 8va line in edit mode with Shift + arrows. See: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/edit-mode#lines
If you want it on a single note that is not the last note of the measure, then select the note you want it on and ctrl+click the next note before applying the 8va.
