Brushes are not part of the original GM spec but are in level two, as part of the "Brush" kit. Go to View / Mixer and switch to that drum kit for the staff and you'll have a variety of brush sounds. You'll need to customize the drumset definition in Edit Drumset to take full advantage, and you'll need to consult to GM Level 2 specs to learn how. Sorry that isn't as simple as one would like...
So how would one switch sticks in the middle of a song, and have the mixer respond accordingly? I'm trying to have a transition from brushes to sticks.
Assuming you don't have a drumset with both sounds (some do, just do a web search), you can add an instrument change from the Text palette, which gives you a new mixer channel, and you can change the drumset there.

I am afraid they are not here, which is why I do not find them.
But you can take a look at this conversation: https://musescore.org/en/node/261907#comment-817006
