Enter special characters directly from the keyboard
Hi, Gang!!!
I use MuseScore 3.0.5, in Ubuntu Studio 18.04.2 LTS (64 bit Linux).
I hope the development team read and understand this, even the fact I'm not an English language citizen. Sorry if I don't use the right grammar!!!
Today, all of PC keyboards let us to enter, directly, some special characters we use day by day into our languages: á, é, í, ó, ú, ü, ñ, Ñ, ©, @, and others.
However, MuseScore doesn't let us, to use it, directly, into:
1) Title.
2) Subtitle.
3) Composer.
4) Poet.
5) Score properties.
6) Lyrics.
7) Any text field in the score.
Yes!!! I know we can use the additional "Special Characters Panel" to copy those characters from there and paste it where we need. Yes, I know that!!!
But... Is it something "logical" to use that way if we could enter directly from our keyboards? ???
Why I have to use the extra panel to enter, per example, "á" if I could do it with the standard [´]+[a] keyboard combination? ???
Worst, if I use the standard keyboard combination, I just get "a" (without written accent)!!!
I know we, the Spanish language people, are not the majority people using MuseScore. But...
We exist!!! Spanish is a today and live language!!! We need use those characters!!!
Please!!! Why not to change this behaviour in the future versions? ???
Blessings and Greetings from Chile!!!
JUAN

I too am using version 3.0.5, and I use the age-old Alt+keypad method to enter characters. I know it works in the Title box, so I would think it would also work in the other boxes too. Try holding the Alt key and typing 0209 on the keypad for example. However, I don't know if that method works on a Unix-based system.
See my response to your other post about this issue. Short answer: if MsueScore receives the character from the keyboard / operating system / libraries, we display it. If some particular key combination is not working for you, then either your keyboard, operating system, or the libraries we use simply aren't giving it to us, and there is little we can do about that.

Hi, Marc!!!
Let's say... I'm writing the Lyric of some song.
Of course, you have to suppose it is Spanish language because I live in Chile, where Spanish is the official language.
Then, let' say, I have to write the word "corazón" (heart).
Into any other software in my PC, I just press the keys: [´] + [o] and I get the character "ó" ("o" with written accent).
BUT... using the same keyboard, the same PC, the same Operating System... With that keyboard combination [´] + [o], MuseScore just gives me a single "o" (without the written accent).
This is the same in Titles, Subtitles, Composer, Poet, Score Properties, etc.
I have to use the [Alt] sequence, and/or the additional Special Characters Panel to get the "ó".
So... It IS NOT something related with my keyboard, PC and/or Operating System.
Something, inside MuseScore, is not working with those combination!!!

I can write the accented o and other accented char's. in the way you describe it in the Musescore software.
`+o, ´+o, ~+n, ¨+i (see attachment)

It is not working for me either. I suggest users post whether they have it working or not and include the Operating System, Musescore version, what Keyboard they have set up.
OS: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.0.5., revision: 58dd23d ( this is ubuntustudio which uses the xfce evironment)

Hola, los acentos están funcionando bien en todas mis otras aplicaciones. Tal vez sea culpa del pingüino?

"Underquark", I use the following configuration:
OS..................................: UbuntuStudio 18.04.2 LTS (64 bit Linux)
Motherboard................: MSI H61M-P31W8 (MS-7788)
RAM...............................: 8 GB
HDD...............................: Two (1TB each one)
MuseScore....................: 3.0.5, rev. 58dd23d Portable AppImage
Keyboard.......................: 105-key PC (Spanish layout)
AND... Here, the written accents doesn't work, directly from the keyboard, into MuseScore.
I can use the written accents (death keys combination) with any other software I have (LibreOffice, Audacity, PulseEffect, OpenShot, Mozilla Firefox, GIMP, SimpleScan, gscan2pdf, Sweet Home 3D, etc, etc. etc.)
SO... I suggest, to the MuseScore development team, that see into the free C++ code of Ubuntu or, let's say, LibreOffice and look for the piece of code MuseScore missed about this issue, BECAUSE... MUSESCORE 2.3.2 (and previous versions) LET US TO USE THE WRITTEN ACCENTS, DIRECTLY FROM THE KEYBOARD!!!
Just... An idea.

Were you perhaps using a regular installation for 2.3.2 but using an AppImage for 3.0.5? it's long been known that the AppImage mechanism has issues with the "dead key" method of generating keycodes. See for instance #104816: AppImage doesn't accept accented characters from keyboard using "dead keys".

Good is to know this!!! But... Up to my knowledge, there is not a full downlable, installable (and stable) version of MuseScore 3.x to Linux, yet!!!
So...
