"Translate" MIDI files dynamics

• Mar 4, 2020 - 19:04

Hi, gang!!!

I wonder if I missed something but...

Is there a way to get MuseScore "translate" the internal MIDI files dynamics into the visual dynamics signs? ???

I mean, if some MIDi file has, let's say, a dynamics value around the standard "pp" dynamics value, at some part of the piece... How to get MuseScore put that "pp" symbol into the score, automatically? Is there some way to get this? ???

The same to the variable dynamics lines (crescendo and/or diminuendo).

Did I miss something, here? ???

Blessings and Greetings from Chile!!!

There is no such facility built-in, but it sounds like an interesting plugin idea. There would be a fair amount of "AI" involved in deciding the best way to handle it.

Hi, Marc!!!

I see there is no way to get this, today.

Well, I hope we will have this capacity in the near future (I think it is a very useful tool).

BTW: Why you talk about "AI", here? I don't think to compare the internal MIDI files dynamics values (CC7 and/or CC11) with some dynamics scale is something related with "intelligence". It is some basic mathematical comparison between values.

Approximately, that scale is something like this:

MIDI dynamics values ------- Score dynamics symbol
000 to 010 ----------------------- pppp
011 to 023 ----------------------- ppp
024 to 036 ----------------------- pp
037 to 049 ----------------------- p
050 to 062 ----------------------- mp
063 to 075 ----------------------- mf
076 to 088 ----------------------- f
089 to 101 ----------------------- ff
102 to 114 ----------------------- fff
115 to 127 ----------------------- ffff

I can't see some kind of "intelligence" to make this comparison, He he he!!!

Consider, what is a single chord contains notes with different velocities? Do you want to see multiple dynamics? Or if a measure contains a series of notes with slightly different velocities 60, 64, 61, 63, 62, etc - do you want to a new dynamic on each note? What about recognition of crescendo and diminuendo ? in order for this to be at all useful, you can't just go in and stick a dynamic on each note.
