mixing different note lengths
I used to be able to put a half note at the same location as a quarter note,
but on musescore 2.0.2 I don't see how to do this.
Please help.

Press F8
can you attach an example (or the score)?
The Inspector displays by default, buit it's possible you closed it at some point not realizing how useful it was. It's found in the View menu, or the F8 shortcut as mentioned.
however, it isn't really clear what you mean. Attaching the actual score is always helpful so we don't have to guess. But here are two reasonable guesses:
1) you want a half note and quarter note at the same time on the same staff but with different pitches. In which case, you need multiple voices. This is done exactly the same as in previous versions of MuseScore. See the Handbook under "Voices".
2) you want a half note and quarter note at the time *and* the same pitch on the same staff in different voices, but you want them to share a notehead. That is, quarter note will appear like a half note, or vice versa. In which case, you still use multiple voices the same way, but you use the Inspector to change the head of one of the notes to match the other, and then MuseScore will merge them automatically.
