Adding extra voice

• Apr 7, 2016 - 16:29

Hi,
I would like to add a soloist voice to a partition of 4 voices for choir, but only for a few measures. Is this possible? I cannot choose to hide blank measures, as there are such blank measures throughout the partition for the other voices. Thanks for your enlightment.

You could put a note of Voice 2 in the empty measures that do not want to hide, and make it invisible and mute by Inspector

Thank you Shoichi for your suggestion. But after reading all the replies that were kindly sent to me, it appears that with the latest version 2.0.3, I can actually select not to hide certain measures but hide the rest. I'll try that and if not, I have made a note of your suggestion. I never knew what the 1, 2 3 was for at the top, now I know!

Welcome aboard...

Actually, you don't hide blank measures... you hide empty staves. (Also posting your score would help.)

If the 4 choir voices are each on separate staves and there exists an empty stave for a voice that you don't want hidden, then use Shoichi's suggestion of using a 'fake' note to populate the staff.

But...
Assuming all the choir voice staves are populated with notes (e.g. a closed SATB score), you can add another stave strictly for the soloist, enter the notes for those few measures, then use menu item: Style > Score > Hide empty staves.

Regards.

Thank you for your comments. The problem was that precisely, I could not hide empty measures, but empty staves. All the choir voice staves are not populated with notes in this particular case. But as I have downloaded the newest version 2.0.3, it appears that I can do just that. I'll have to try and if not, thank you for your suggestion.

If you're on 2.0.3 there's no need for hidden notes.

For each staff you don't want to hide, right click it and in the staff properties check 'Never hide'. Only then turn on the 'Hide empty staves' option.
