Playback volume per instrument ?
I have a score with 7 instruments each on a separate staff/system (hmm - I don't know which term to use yet?). I want to control the playback volume independently for each?
(I think of them as voices but am pretty sure that is not how MuseScore used the concept of "voices.")
Can I do this?

Each instrument is on a different *staff*. So, if your instruments are, say, violin, viola, and cello, then you have three instruments, each instrument has one staff. If piano was one of your instruments, that instrument would use two staves. But let's stick with the example of three instruemnts each having one staff.
A *system* is the collection of the staves running across across the page. So if your piece is only a couple of measures long, it has only one system - that system will consist of three staves.
If your soung is long enough - say, 8 measures - that it won't fit on "line", then it will contain multiple systems. Each system will contain three staves (unless you use "Hide empty staves", which allows some systems to contain fewer staves).
Said another way - maybe this will finally help clear the confusion:
The numbers of *staves* in your score depends on the number of instruments, and *not* on the length of the score. A piece for violin, viola, and cello has three staves. It doesn't matter if it is one measure long or 17,000 measures long - there are only three staves.
The number of *systems* in your score depends on its length, and *not* on the number of instruments. A piece that is 32 measures long will likely take somewhere around eight systems (assuming four measures fit on each system on average). It doesn't matter if the score has a single staff (eg, a score for unaccompanied solo voice) or it has 23 staves (eg, a score for synphony orchestra) - the number of systems has nothing to do with the number of staves. Only with the length of the score.
