Connecting the beam between notes in different lines

• May 7, 2016 - 00:45

I don't really have a clue how to connect the beam between two notes that are located in two different lines. Can somebody help me connect them together in measure 17-18?

In the meantime there is a work-around that seems to work for me (save for the post-mentioned ledger-line error):
1.) Select the last note of the measure (in your case measure 17). Within the Inspector increase the Chord: Horizontal Offset. 2.00SP seems to work well here. Note that this is the chord offset, not the note offset in order to have all connected elements be part of the offsetting. This first offsetting buffers the beam as it were to extend it toward the end of the measure.
2.) Next you want to move the note head and stem back to be aligned closer to its previous note in an even spacing: Edit the Horizontal-Offset to -1.50SP for both note-head & note-stem separately. Repeat for both Clefs

3.) Do the same thing for the next measure, but instead of +2.00sp on the chord's horizontal offset do a negative.

Unfortunately, in doing this I realized that there is a graphical error here still: the ledger lines of the second measure become too large lengthwise. Anyone know how to fix that or can it be done? So it seems that if there are no extra ledger lines it looks just fine.

I am adding images to show the result:

I figured out a work-around to the ledger problem.
This might sound ridiculous at first because of what's required, but it works:

1) Make the actual measure duration one extra beat.
2) Do what's required to make the measure be equal to what it was but with a note in front of everything else of the same nature: e.g. a 16th note with rests leading up to the passage.
3) Make sure that the new note is the start of the beam instead of the main passage, and then make the rests be middle-beamed and have the main passage's beam be connected in the middle rather than the start.
4) Make the new note invisible and not-playable in the investigator. Also make the rests invisible.
5) Edit the invisible note's chord's horizontal attribute and any other spacing attributes if desired (maybe do this before setting invisibility). This might have to be done to the main passage's note as well.
6) There now is an extended beam as desired and the ledger lines are not extended!

...Remember that this is only if there are ledger lines that end up looking too big: otherwise all this is superfluous.

The problem is that this is a totally unorthodox way to go about doing something simple, and the thing is in playback there will be a silence between the added note and the actual passage, but it will print out okay if you edit accordingly (hoping that's what you want):
