Character with frame and line

Here's what happens when you try to include a character with a frame in a text-line:

As you can see, when "Place" is set to "Above," no matter what the horizontal or vertical alignment, the line cuts into the frame. But when "Place" is set to "Left," there is too much space between the circled number and the line. There seems to be no half-measure.

Shouldn't the line use the edge of the frame as the boundary in this case, rather than the character?

One could ask the same about any other text, actually - eg, rehearsal marks. Currently, any frame text is aligned relative to the text itself, which is what you want sometimes, not other times. Lines are a case where you probably never want it aligned to the text. In any case, currently, the solution is to account for the frame margin in the offset. Eventually we could consider adding some sort of new alignment option, much like the difference we have between "bottom" and "baseline". Would be interesting to see how other programs handle this.
