Blanking out Instrument staffs till needed ?

My latest piece is 245 measures at 6 pages. I have 4 other instruments come in, but only for 70 measures.
Is there not a way to hide instruments until needed ? It's now ballooned to 20 pages with a heck of a lot of wasted empty staff.
Reading through the handbook and messing with staff properties, I'm not finding a way to do this.
