Note input mode will not recognize the bass clef

• Sep 3, 2016 - 18:18

Hey very-helpful Musescore team!

I noticed today when I was making the finishing touches to a piano score that when I was in note input mode MS only recognized the treble clef. When I hovered the cursor over the bass clef it simply extended lots of ledger lines down over the bass clef. I could not enter in notes into the bass clef.

There a few possible reasons why this happened but I'm not sure.

1. Yesterday I converted the score to 3 staves for the introduction and end of my piece, and clicked "hide unused measures". It seemed to be working ok and I'm happy with the set up.

2. Today I widened the distance between the bass and treble in the grand stave from 6.5 to 10.0. I was pleased with the result, but then I noticed this issue. When I do 'undo' nothing changes, nor does it change if I return the staff spacing to 6.5.

Here is an attachment of my score. I'm using OSX El Cap 10.11.6 and MS 2.0.3

Thanks!

Ah, you are referring the systems with only two staves I assume, like starting from measure 26. There are known issues with using the mouse to enter notes in scores with hidden staves - see for exampe #8997: Hidden instruments re-appear when clicking outside the stave of visible ones. Solution is to enter notes first then hide empty staves (this would be necessary in general anyhow; otherwise you won't be able to enter notes on those staves).

Note that clicking is but one way to enter notes; not a very efficient way at that. See the Handbook for info on the other ways (eg, typing letter names, using the Piano Keyboard window, MIDI). The other methods work fine in the presence of hidden staves; only mouse input has issues as far as I know.
