Starting a measure with an eighth rest
I am fairly new to MuseScore and only use it to copy a 4 page song to make it into a two page song. I am copying a new song and have two issues. One measure starts with a quarter and an eighth rest before the notes and I don't know how to do that. In the same measure it has an eighth rest above a whole note and I don't know how to move it up above the lines, plus it has a whole note, an eighth note, and a half note in the same measure.
Obviously I am also fairly new to music in general, but thos song is in a book that I have been using.
Thanks for any help. Sz

Thank you so much. I searched for rest notes, but couldn'5 find anything besides clicking on the quarter note symbol. I had no idea about "voices". Got it done! Sz

The quarter rest icon should be less confusing in the next version of MuseScore:
In general, in MuseScore you enter notes and rests left to right. Entering a rest at the beginning of a measure is no different than entering it anywhere else. Once you are in note input mode, just enter the notes and rests in order, left to right. Easiest way to enter either notes or rests is by typing - letter names for notes, "0" for rests. But you can also use the toolbars and mouse if you prefer.

Hi and welcome.
For me, I have found reading this very informative. Perhaps you too?
