double-clicking a note removes tie?

This behavior seems strange -- can anyone confirm or explain if this is intentional or is a defect?

W7, MS1.1
- start with two tied notes
- double-click the first note
result: tie disappears
expected: tie remains
(note: double-clicking the 2nd note doesn't cause tie to disappear)
