rest symbols in text

• Dec 17, 2011 - 12:33

Hello -

I'm doing a homework sheet for my year 3 pupils, as they're starting to learn basics of musical notation. I've attached a pdf of it - what I want to do, if it's at all possible, is to add rest symbols to the note symbols I've already put in from the F2 menu. I can see the symbols I want in the other symbols menu (Z), but can't figure out how to add them to the text.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible?

Many thanks

Chris

You can't literally add "Z" symbols to your text, but you can leave space for them in your text then drag them onto your score and position them manually. No way to control the size of the rest, though.

If you add the character "Î" to your text, you can then set the font for that character to Opus and adjust the size.

The Î is character 0xCE Ninth row, Fourteenth column in Character Map. The other rests are there too. Other fonts such as Reprise, Inkpen2, and Helsinki also have the quarter rest at the Î position.

Attached is what I think you want. Feel free to edit and use as you choose.

You are probably correct, I tried several music writers. In any case, there should be a font with the rest symbols somewhere, from MuseScore or another program. May have to search a bit, or google music fonts and download one. But the technique I described will let you add rests into text.

I would be a whole lot easier if rests were added to the F2 list. Maybe in MuseScore 2......
