Where did my sound go?

For the past several weeks, I have not been able to produce or playback any sort of audio from musescore on my Mac. Yes, the speakers work and the program works, but not the playback; it's permanently grayed out. I have tried deleting and reinstalling Musescore, but to come back to this same issue. Help please :(
