Playback for stringed instruments

• Nov 18, 2016 - 20:27

Hello,
is there a way to tell the playback to differentiate between arco and pizzicato on stringed instruments? I have a concerto which has both, but it is always played back as arco.

And is there a way to change the default sound for the strings to string ensemble? Right now, it is always a single instrument, playing arco.

Thanks.

To change from arco to pizzicato and back, click the note where the change starts and do the following

add a staff text (I press ctrl-t to do this) that says arco or pizz. or anything you want it to say, MS does not read this text. I often use multiple commands to the strings such as "div. arco"

right click your staff text

in the speed menu left click "Staff Text Properties"

left click all the voices you want to change (there numbers will change to the same colors as a notes selected in that voice) click the numbers across you want to make the same (e.g. 1 and 2 if you want both voices 1 and 2 to play a new way or you forgot what you had them do last, not that I would ever forget....)

On the second, third and fourth lines you can select voices for other playing options.

To the right of the voices you want to change click the word normal (or pizzicato or tremolo) and a drop down menu will appear. click on the appropriate playback style.

Do the same for the other lines only if you want different voices to play differently such as voice 1 "normal" (arco) and voice 2 "pizzicato"

You can also do the same on trumpets with Mute and Open (Normal). I'm not aware of any other instruments that have more than one playback option changed by staff text.

Remember that if you want measure 6 to start playing pizzicato and measure 10 to revert to arco you will have to change it at both measures. (6 to pizz., 10 to arco)
