Playback unexpectedly jumps to start
The manual says (I know, famous last words):
"MuseScore starts playback from the place it last left off. If you select a note then MuseScore starts from the newly selected note instead."
No it doesn't! I've tried this and tried it and tried it: I select a note, the note turns blue, I hit space bar, and sometimes playback starts from the selected note, and sometimes it jumps to the beginning of the score and plays back. Extremely irritating.
I'm not sure I have this completely figured out, but I think this tends to happen when I:
- select a note.
- hit space bar. Playback begins from the selected note.
- play several measures, hit space bar to stop playback, and make some changes to notes in the current measure.
- go back several measures, select a note, hit space bar. Playback begins (at least sometimes, maybe not always) from beginning of score.
Is this a bug?

Just did a minor tidy of the Play Mode page.
What version and OS are you using?
Yes, this has been bothering me for a while. I have Mac OS X 10.7 and MuseScore 1.1 build 4611.
I find that if you start and stop the score with the space key, for example, then select where you want it to start then it will start from that place.
Having the Play Panel open shows the position leaping around erratically.
I think the trouble occurs when you have several repeated sections. If there are no repeats then the problem doesn't occur. Turning "Play repeats" off (next to play button) also resolves the problem - until you turn them on again.

Well it is driving me bonkers. My working style is to listen to a few measures, make a change, then go back and listen to them again. But what I have to do is listen to a few measures, make a change, select the note where I started, hear playback start at the beginning, utter a few censorable words, manually go back to where I began the changes, select a note there, and then listen to the measures I changed.
I've noticed occasionally also that when I select a note and hit space, nothing at all happens.
Thanks for the information about repeats -- there are several repeats in this score, so maybe that contributes to the problem.
(I have W7 64b Home Premium with 8G mem and Musecore 1.1.)
See these:
#11404: Playback issues with repeats (again)
#13610: Playback doesn't start from clicked note if score has repeats
I have encountered the same thing and I also find it very irritating. I found a workaround ... double click the note you want to start playback on, then deselect, then click once on the same note you want playback to start on and it seems to take. For me when the glitch happens it will keep on happening untill I get into some new bars. It only happens intermittently for me.
I am a daily user of MuseScore, and I have had this erratic jump to the beginning when playing certain files.
Here is a workaround that works for me and is time-saving but still doesn't resolve the issue:
1: Hit space to play. It will jump to the beginning. However, the note you just selected that you intended to play from is still selected.
2: Press the left (or right) arrow (will scroll to the next (or previous) note from the one selected) and the right (or left) arrow to go back to the initial note.
3: Pressing space to play should then work without jumping to the beginning.
This seems like a long process, but you can get in the habit of hitting this key sequence fast if you use MuseScore enough.
Here is the sequence without the explanation:
Select note to play from, Space, Space, Left, Right, Space
Hope this helps someone out there.

I've had this problem as well, turning off repeats did help, but whenever I had them on, I noticed everytime I would hit play, it would jump ahead about 24 measures. If there were less than 24 measures after the selected note, the program thinks the playback has reached the end, so nothing would happen and the playback gets reset to the beginning. What I did was either start a few sections behind and (hopefully) land on it, or if it is close to the end, hit play once, then select the note again and hit play again.

I assume you too are talking about version 1.3 or earlier. It's obviously a known (from this thread, among other reports) bug, fixed quite some time ago for the 2.0 release, so you can test the fix in the beta or nightly builds if you like.
