Do you have the "N" button clicked for note entry mode? and have you enable the device in the preferences?
In reply to Do you have the "N" button by jamiethemorris
yes i clicked on the N button. the device in preference is enabled. see recent posts. thanks for the help.
In reply to yes i clicked on the N by ceppct
As a general rule it is better not to post the same question twice. It makes it difficult to trace what is actually happening. Posting more than once will probably delay rather than speed up a response.

I opened a new score -- entered a rest --
the Midi in the tool bar is eather white or shaded
i tried both white and shaded
when i pressed N on eather one --IT DOSENT ACCEPT THE KEABOARD NOTE.
The blue line is in back of the blue rest. --I can place a chosen note with the mouse.
i am SORRY.
I called Yamaha, they told me to call Hosa Tec to get a driver for the Midi cable ,ao I did
as soon as i get the driiver i will let you know. after i get it installed i will see if it works.

Its me again .--Yamaha said to reverse the in and out cables so I shut down keaboard and the computer
so I put the IN cable in the OUT port and the OUT cable in the IN port in the keyboard ..--than I followed your
instructiions as above and IT WORKS . Nowhere in the Yamaha instruction book said to do this..I wont need a driver now.
I am verry greatful for your help. now i can start my work
THANKS AGAIN Clifford Pieper

You're not the first person to be caught out by this feature of MIDI!
It's always the first thing I check when a MIDI port isn't working - I've been known to plug them in the wrong way round myself upon occasion :)
Glad you're up and running now.
