Separate parts playback
To help my choir to listen to their parts separately and also against the melody line, they need to be able to play just their part using the full score rather than saving their section separately. Is this possible?

See View / Mixer, and solo the staff you want to hear. If you have combined parts on a single staff, you'll need to mute one of the parts manually - select all, use the selection filter to exclude the voice you want to keep hearing, hit the Notes button in the Inspector to limit selection to just the notes, then uncheck "Play".

I believe what you want is to open the mixer (F10) and either soloing the parts you want to hear or muting the parts you do not want to hear, which ever is easier for the situation. Just as clarification, you can solo all the instruments if you want, they will then be played normally. Pressing F10 will make it once again invisible. and automatically save your changes.
