Musescore doesn't see my keyboard
Hi - I have connected my keyboard to pc via a midi to USB cable, tested the connection using separate software but can't get Musescore to see my device so I can enter notes. Current preferences under I/O are
Use Jack - unticked,
Use internal synthesizer - ticked
Portaudio - ticked
Api-MME
Device - External Mic (IDT High Definition) - I was expecting to see USB here somewhere but there is nothing like that
Choose PortMidi input interface - no options to select from.
I have tried changing different options then closing and opening Musescore again - but can't seem to get any options under input interface. Hopefully I am doing something obviously wrong and you can help.
thanks

What make is your USB/MIDI interface?

Using a midi to USB cable. It's supposed to work directly from Midi output on piano to my laptop. I have a trial copy of SIbelius and that works fine so I know the connection is working but not for Musescore.

Yes but what make is the cable??

Thanks for your attention :-) It's an un-branded cheap cable. But it works with other software so I don't think the cable is the problem.
Any other ideas?

OK I wnated to be sure there were no known incompatibilities.
The procedure should be as follows.
1. Connect your keyboard via the interface to your computer
2. Start MuseScore.
3. Ensure the MIDI button in the toolbars is on
4. Goto the Edit Preferences page.
5. Your interface should be listed in the PortMidi input list.
If it is not then there is something else going on.

Hello
I am somewhat new to music notation software, have used sibelius and am enjoying the musescore for arranging music. I purchased a midi keyboard, however, and have the same difficulties as the previous user, I can't get note entry to work! Computer recognizes the keyboard and it is recognized by musescore as well for input, but playing notes does not result in any input to the score. I too am using a midi interface cord and as I said it is working fine, but no input. I also have not yet been able to play scores through the midi keyboard, although that is not my chief goal. Any help is appreciated. Kathy Keough

Find some discussion. Look here:

Check the keyboard settings, if they gave you a cd, and drivers.
Like any device, when you insert the USB cable is detected?
Provide as much information as possible in order to narrow down the problem
Franz.
The keyboard is casio, I only seem to have power settings of normal, fingered and chord---have tried all of these. My computer does recognize the keyboard and the musescore is listing output for midi under preferences. I also have a function control that says transpose/tune/midi, and will try changing those settings. Thanks
