Sibelius to Musescore Time Signature / Text Issue

• Aug 26, 2012 - 18:43

I just got an .xml file that came from Sibelius 6 (I think) and put it into Musescore for a percussion part I'm writing. I got a full score and individual percussion part with 3 staves. The files were written in 3/4 time.
When I opened the files, I first had to change the instrument names. When I did, the text for the new instruments in the score got smaller. When I tried writing in parts to the score and percussion part, it wrote the music like it was in 4/4 time, and one of the rests disappeared in the perc part.

Does anyone know how to fix this, if there's a new patch coming soon to fix this bug, or how to do the "invisible rests" I've heard about?

So delete all but the first few measures\ - assuming you have access to Sibelius there at school, anyhow.

Otherwise, even posted the MSCZ file generated by MuseScore (with all but the initial measures removed) could help.

Figured out how to get the invisible rests (right click note, click make invisible) but I'm still having trouble in the overall score file with rests in a measure disappearing and not letting me add notes in that measure, even though I can still technically click the Notation button and have it highlight the measure. You can see the problem start at Rehearsal 2--or measure 9 for the Triangle.
I'm also having a problem in my percussion only file with one instrument being in 3/4, while another notating in 4/4 (I would use the invisible rest feature to fix this) You can see this problem again starting at Rehearsal mark 2--or measure 9. It's also an issue in the overall score, with the Drumset and Triangle.

The percussion score came from the overall score, so that's why the're the same. I also haven't been copy/pasting, since that's how the problem started, so I stopped doing that. Although the measure rest issue still persists.

Your score is a bit confusing to me. Did you deliberately do something to make some measures appear to have 3 beats in them and others appear to have 4? That's not at all normal, and shouldn't be possible. If you were trying to do that deliberately, then it would help if you explained why. But otherwise, I'm guessing your score has somehow become corrupt, because again, that shouldn't normally ever happen.

There are a coupe of things that are known to cause corruption in scores - copying empty 5/4 measures and copying incomplete triplets among them. But in this case, I'm guessing the score was exported from Sibelikus incorrectly in the first place. Unfortunately, that's going to be hard to determine without seeing the XML file from Sibelius. Maybe ask your band director to create a new one containing just the first 20 measures?

Ok. I just added a voice, though, to the Drumset part (in the perc score) and Voice 1 was notating in 4/4, while Voice 2 was notating in 3/4. I notated voice 2 first, and then added in voice 1 later, and saw the problem. I heard that this issue can happen because of multiple voices after looking this up in the forums for MS, but I couldn't find a solution.

Is there one yet? Did MtS fix or are trying to fix this problem in a new patch they're developing?

There *is* a bug involving copy/paste in 1.2 with multiple voices, and it is possible that's what corrupted your score. I forget the detail of exactly what triggers it - it isn't very common. I think you just got unlucky here; in general, most things involving multiple voices work just fine. Anyhow, I am pretty sure this and all other known sources of corruption are fixed in 2.0 already, but that's still months away. There are no plans to release any patches for 1.2, but again, you just got unlucky here - I have produced hundreds upon hundreds of pages of scores and only had corruption creep in once or twice. Just avoid copying incomplete triplets or empty 5/4 bars. If anyone else can remember what the issue was with multiple voices, then maybe they can post it and you can avoid that too.,
