Stave settings lost when switching to and from tab mode

Lets say I have an instrument that is notated in the bass clef, if I start a new score for that instrument and the default clef in instruments.xml is the bass clef then the stave is correct and note entry proceeds just fine.

However, if I change the stave to tab view, and then later switch it back to notation, the clef reverts to the treble clef with all the notes hanging way down below the stave. Obviously I can go to the clef palette and reset the clef, but that's a pain to be honest, especially for those of us that like to change between the two views fairly often.
