changing font colours

I occasionally want to highlight some words/lyrics (not all) by changing their colour ... however, when I use the inspector ... the colour window keeps getting larger and larger to the point where is unusable ...

Sometimes it will return to a smaller size, but that usually happens if I haven't used the program for a while ...

Once or twice I have been able to reduce it's size on screen, but not very often ...

I don't know why and I don't understand ... and I can't seem to fix it on a consistent basis ...
