Automatically Adding New Staves?

• Oct 8, 2012 - 21:44

I've reached the end of a line of music, and usually when I do, another "blank" stave (that is to say, an entire next line full of measures filled with whole rests) appears, so that I have more measures to write in. However, in this case there is no blank staff and I'm not sure how to create one. I don't want to add or append measures. I want the continuation of my stave system full of blank/whole rest measures to appear. Any tips?

You do want to append more measures. Press Ctrl + B several times. If you want these new measures on a new line, a new system, then use a line break. Select the barline where you want to break and press Return or drag and drop a line break from the Breaks and spacer palette.

Create a blank score the way you like it. Save it (as a regular, default .MSCZ MuseScore file) and then copy it to your templates folder:

Windows: C:\Program Files\MuseScore 1.2\templates.
ubuntu: file system/usr/share/mscore-1.2/templates
MAC - sorry, don't know (look it up).

In ubuntu you need to have root privileges to copy anything to that folder so open a Terminal and type the commands (cp... etc.) if you know them or "gksudo nautilus" if you prefer or whatever other way you have of doing this.

You choose the number iof measures when you created the score - it's part of the "new score" wizard (on the last screen, at the bottom). I believe t defaults to the same number of measures as the last score you created since starting up MuseScore, or 32 (I think) if this the first score.
