[RESOLVED] Thumping sound with default Piano soundfont, first note only
This is kind of an odd issue, and I'm not sure I can describe what is happening in words but I will try!
I am using MuseScore 2.0.3 on a new Dell XPS 9560 laptop running Windows 10. I am working on a score with a grand staff set to the default Piano soundfont.
When I click on any note, or begin playback, in addition to the sound of the note, I am hearing a distinct thumping sound that sounds like a low woodblock. It seems to vibrate the computer slightly as well.
While the first note is still trailing off, if I hit subsequent notes (or let the playback continue), none of the other notes have this thumping sound. However, as soon as I wait a few seconds until the prior note is no longer registering a sound, the thumping sound returns with the very next note I play.
I tried exporting to a MP3 file, in which case the thumping noise is not present. I have tried other soundfonts (the built-in ones) but it seems like only the Piano voice has this property. I have tested this on the same version of MuseScore on a different desktop PC running Windows 7, and I don't notice this thumping sound.
I would appreciate any suggestions. I am trying to determine if there is a setting in MuseScore that may be causing this, or if it might be some audio setting on my laptop - perhaps the initial surge of sound output to my speaker when no sound is playing causes a "thump" but then additional sound output doesn't trigger this if there is already something going to the speaker? I know that sounds crazy :) Thanks!

Thanks for the prompt reply. I opened up the Waves MaxxAudio Pro interface and noticed an error message saying the default playback device wasn't supported, and all of the functions were disabled.
Next, I ran the Troubleshooting wizard for my audio drivers. It detected a problem with the way Audio Effects were being applied and apparently resolved it.
After restarting, now the Waves MaxxAudio Pro interface is functional again, and I am not getting the same thumping sound in MuseScore. I will try to create a custom audio profile to try to avoid the risk of damaging my speakers.
I am also hoping this resolves my headphone issues with MuseScore. I tried it on a plane two weeks ago, and it sounded like playing piano underwater!
