MuseScore taking over college campuses
In a music class I'm enrolled in, the final assignment involves transcribing a recording that there is no existing sheet music available for. This morning I was presenting my transcription to the class, and I asked how many of them had used MuseScore for their transcription. In a class of about 25 people, about 20 raised their hands.

What I also like about Musescore is its portability. You can run the software from a USB drive as well

:-). Students know a good deal when they see it. It's the establishment that will be slower in catching on. But today's students are tomorrow's establishment :-)
As I see it, the relevant competition right now is Noteflight, since many get exposure to that in grade school and it has some cool collaborative features. But I think also people come to see its limitations and MuseScore as the way forward.
