Chord symbol 'slash'

Is there a way to create a slanted quarter note 'slash' without a note head, as would be used to designate time for chord symbols? I've looked, but I can't find anything perhaps because there's not really a standard terminology for that notation. Thanks!!

Write the values as notes. Then select them and go to Noteheads in the pallette. double click the "slash"-type" icon, 2nd row. Select all, right-click, go to note properties, select stemless. I write the notes on the middle line of the staff.

The Note Properties dialog is in the right click menu. Select the notes you want to change, right click, Note Properties, then have it. You can set the note to stemless and change the head to slash both from that same dialog; also set playback to zeo velocity and other properties.

However, there is a much simpler way. Just download and installed the Slash Notation plugin from the Plugins repository (see link at right of this page). It automates the generation of these slashes, also allows for the conversion of specific rhythms to slash notation, either right on the staff ofpr above the staff.

Thanks Marc for the tip on the plugin. I'm unable to install the plugin properly. It downloads as a folder. Using the instructions in the manual, I 'show package contents" & drag the slash folder into the plugins folder. Restarting Muse Score, it does not appear in the list of plug ins.

I also tried installing in Application support in the Library... no effect.

MAC OS 10.8.2

Did you look in the Lead Sheet submenu? That's where it installs.

I'm not a Mac expert, so if that doesn't turn out to be it, hopefully someone else can clarify the installation instructions. Sounds like you are doing it correctly, though, from what little I do understand. I guess the one other thing to be sure is that you are not putting the raw ZIP file into the plugins folder, but are actually *extracting* it. It should show up as a folder once extracted, though.

It's a pretty useful plugin' I use it all the time. I just wish MuseScore supported this more directly, so it could always and automatically place the slashes on the correct staff line, and the slashes wouldn't transpose. As it is, the plugin has to guess what staff line to use, and it can guess wrong.

Thanks, but there is no sub menu for lead sheets. There are plugins installed at contents/plugins which contain several folders, but the contents are different types of files than what was downloaded as the folder "Slash_1", which contains a few.png image files, a .js file that opens in Safari as text, and a 'slash.ui' file.

Maybe you're not talking about the same thing as me. If you click "Plugins" at the top of the MuseScore screen, a menu should drop down with a list of installed plugins. On this list, one of the things should be Lead Sheet - assuming you are using 1.1 or later, which you need to be in order for this plugin to work anyhow. On my system, Lead Sheet shows up second on the list, right after ABC Import, but I think that is system dependent. Anyhow, take a closer look at the Plugins menu - Lead Sheet should already be there even before installing the Slash plugin.

If you click Lead Sheet in the Plugins menu, by default you would see only "Create Chord Chart" - that's the only Lead Sheet plugin that comes preinstalled. But if you have successfully installed the slash plugin, then that too will show up in the Lead Sheet submenu.
