what are the small guide notes called ?

`Hello,

Does any one know what the small guide notes are called on a Staff, that are some times used to denote the music is to be played if your band does not have the correct instrument ?

"Cue notes" is the usual term. I created a plugin by that name (see the Plugins menu at right of this page) to automate their creation in musescore, but there isn't much to it and it's just as easy to without the plugin. Select a range of notes, right click, note properties,, set small, also set velocity to 1 if you want to suppress playback.
