Help needed urgently RE: Empty Staves in Musescore 2.0.3
Hi, full-time user, first-time poster.
So I've got a problem and I really need help fast because this piece is due very shortly. I wrote a big fat orchestral score, checked hide Empty staves. Problem is It leaves huge gaps where empty sections would be and I can't figure out how to format it correctly. I've attached the monstrosity below, if anyone could get back to me ASAP I'd be extremely grateful. Love the software, Love the tunes.
Thanks!

Orchestral? I think is preferable not to hide the empty staves .
Use File/Parts...
An attempt by setting page size to A3
In reply to Orchestral? I think is by Shoichi
Ideally, I would, but it has to be submitted A4. The joys of music school never cease.
When I just tested it, not hiding empty staves left nothing but full complete pages, without changing any other settings. There is a minor bug that made some of the short instrument names move to the left a little, but switching to continuous view and back to page view fixed that.
To get rid of the white space after the systems on each page would be a nightmare and nearly impossible in MusScore because nearly every system would have to be a different size. I'm not saying totally impossible but too much work. You would have to shrink all the systems so the systems on the next page would move up. Then you would have to use spacers to spread them back out so the excess space is distributed between the systems on a page.
Did the teacher ask for a condensed score? More commonly you'd just leave the score full. But if it is supposed to be condensed, then "Hide empty staves" is indeed what you want, and as for the empty space, I'm not sure what you'd want to do about it. There isn't room to fit an additional system on any page or MuseScore would already be doing it. If you reduce the staff size, you can get an extra system on some pages, not sure it's worth it though.
Sorted it out in the end, involved going to A3 then back to A4. Suddenly no blank spaces and I managed to make it slightly more legible.
