Is there a way to go one octave higher or lower in keyboard input?
In keyboard input, the note that is inputted is always the closest alternative to the last note. For example, If I were to press cdefg, it would assume that I meant the first five notes of the c major scale, even if I meant middle c, low d, high e, etc. Is there a way to make it go an octave above or below the predicted note using keyboard input, or do I have to manually change it every time?

FWIW, you might want to check out the Handbook section on note input, or the various tutorial videos - there are probably lots of other shortcuts you may not know about.
If you are jumping around in octaves, it might be easier to use the piano keyboard, press P. I use the keyboard all the time and occasionally wish I remembered the piano for passages like that.
