break the tie(?)/grouping(?) between notes
In the attached picture measure 1, the notes above the words "Safe-ly" in the treble clef are tied/grouped, while the bass clef has notes separated. Then in measure 3 the situation is reversed, so that the notes above "God has" are separate in the treble clef, and are tied in the bass clef. I would like to break the ties between the notes so that they appear as separate notes. Sorry I don't know what they are called, and I hope I'm getting the meaning across. Thanks!

Those are beams. Click the second note and in the beams pallet lone note

You need to double click the palette icon (and yes, "no beam" is what you want).
