I did, and I found that using "+" works fine. I've always used "S", and thought that was the way to do it. "+" is not as easy for me since I'm left-handed, but I guess it's a changeable habit. :)

You can change the shortcut in the edit->Preferences menu under the shortcuts tab.
I use the numeric key pad for durations and the alpha keyboard for notes, so the + is always at my fingertips. I have only a few short cuts that I have my right hand press letters on the alpha keyboard. t is a great unused key if you prefer that.

Be sure that the new shortcut isn't used by another command.

OK, but then I have to do it again when the program is updated. :(
Customising can be a good thing, but it can also create more work for you than you ever wished for. :)
That's also why I have my own "home" partition and my own "bin" directory, so I won't have to reload everything when I update my system.

Preferences are supposed to transfer to new versions. It did when I upgraded to 2.1

Generally, preferences will be preserved across "minor" updates - 2.0 to 2.0.1 to 2.0.2 to 2.0.3 to 2.0.3.1 to 2.1, etc. Chances are you'll need to redo them for MuseScore 3 just as I think was required going from MuseScore 1 to MuseScore 2, but major updates like this are only every few years. by then, you'll probably have a new computer and the "+" sign will be easier to reach.
Anyhow, ties and slurs are completely different things, they just happen to look similar (but not identical - ties are smaller, so they can fit *inside* slurs). It's important to use the proper symbol to get the program to deal with them properly, and not just for playback - also for things like how they are drawn, how a change of pitch of one note affects the other, how accidentals are handled, etc.

Not being a native English speaker I didn't realize the difference. However, I'm changing my slurs to ties as I go on editing, and now they are played as expected.
The "plus" sign will remain on the right side of the keyoard and will not become easier to reach, but I can live with that. The "slash" is placed on "shift 7", and I use that a lot after I ditched windows, using backslash. All habits can be changed. :)
