Characters Not Printing Correctly In PDF

• Oct 21, 2013 - 12:58

Hello,

I'm not a musician, but my friend is and he has a bunch of songs that his wife wrote in Finale Notepad. I've volunteered to help the family get her works published posthumously. The native Finale Notepad extension is unavailable (apparently) and so the .xml export options become the best means I can see in getting her works into MuseScore where I am trying to print from using the resident Acrobat X Pro v10.1.8 on my Win7 64-bit machine.

Sending the test document to my laser printer, the characters look great on paper, but when the document is sent to Acrobat, not so much - see attached xml and resulting PDF.

Is there a missing character set or something I should be looking for to correct the matter?

Thank you very much for any guidance.

Kelly

What do you mean about the "native finale Notepad extension" being unavailable? What sort of extension do you need? Finale Notepad can export to MusicXML directly; no extension required. Also womdering why you are going through the extra step of exporting and then importing into MuseScore rather than just printing from Finale Notepad. I guess maybe there is further editing to do? That cannot be done within Notepad It might be simpler to purchase one of the "lite" versions of Finale and use that, or just find someone with a full license, if it's mostly small tweaks. Because you are bound to lose a lot of info in the export / import process and spend a lot of time fixing things back up. But if was going to be a major rewritie process anyhow, maybe that's OK.

Your 'fanale export test 03.xml' opens fine in MuseScore.
Once opened in MuseScore, you can 'save as' a .pdf file from within MuseScore.
That is, go to menu item File / Save as, and then under 'Save as type' look for PDF file (*.pdf).
The resulting .pdf is attached here, and looks fine in Adobe Reader - no strange characters.

Regards.

Thank you Jm6stringer - that's perfect! To be completely honest, I didn't even think to look if MuseScore had its own PDF creator; something which the Finale Notepad did not.

Thank you everybody for kindly responding.
