MP3 export not an option
I am running version 1.3 which I downloaded last week, but trying to save as an MP3 is not an option in Save As. I would download the lame_enc.dll but how would I use it??

If I'm not mistaken lame works on Nightly.
There are several conversations on the subject, in the forums.
But, now, the box "research" seems to be capricious...

Download and install the latest Nightly:

Download and install lame_enc.dll
http://lame1.buanzo.com.ar/ # lamewindl
Open your score with the Nightly and export as mp3 ...

If you are having trouble with MP3 export, please start a new thread (this one is several years old!) and describe your problem in detail - what precisely you are trying to do, what you expect to see happen, what happens instead.
The handbook mentions mp3, but also that is is available as of 2.0 only. The nigltly builds are prereleases of 2.0...

Yeah, a bit confusing, but "we shall overcome", thanks to the help of experienced and sharing users. Thanks for your reply.

MuseScore 2.0, yes, see https://musescore.org/en/node/36111#mp3

Yes, MuseScore 2.0 can export to MP3 directly.
It was perfectly possible to produce MP3 in 1.3, too, BTW - first export to WAV or another format, then convert using Audacity or some other tools. But it is simpler now.

I have attempted to export a score into mp3, direct from MuseScore 2. 2. but it declares that "Lane" is necessary.
I want to learn to sing, what use is music without singing.
I want to play a CD/DVD while in the car.

MuseScore 2.0, not 2.2 and Lame, not Lane. Please read the manual linked to above, it shows where to obtain that LAME DLL.
MuseScore can't provided that as part of the installation for licensing reasons

You don't need MP3 to make CD's, BTW - they are normally made from WAV. And presumably many programs can make them just as easily from the other formats MuseScore provides.
But indeed, you need to install Lame as directed in order to create MP3.

Audio CDs may be made of WAV files, they only fit some 70 minutes of music thiough. Many Car CD players also recognize and play data CDs containing MP3 files, and you can fit much more minutes of music on those

Thanks, but I also want to use them on my mobile.

I would assume msot mobile devices can play WAV, but anyhow, as already mentioned, if you want to create MP#, due to the licensing restrictions on that format, you need to download the LAME library first. It takes only seconds, and you only have to do it once.
In reply to I would assume msot mobile by Marc Sabatella
The advantage of .mp3's is that they're considerably smaller than the corresponding .wav files (between 1/3 and 1/10 the size, from the few tests I've run), which would make a lot of difference if you have limited space on your mobile device.
I just downloaded the LAME library myself, and it's quick and easy.

Thank you all for the help. ghicks please tell me where you put the LAME.

It doesn't really matter where you put it, you just need to tell MuseScore about it (it'll ask)
In reply to Thank you all for the help. by Wena Parry
Although, if you out it in the place where Audacity normally would want it, then MuseScore will find it without any user intervention. If you ever envision wanting to edit an audio file, you might want to downlaod Audacity first, use it to install LAME, and then MsueScore gets it for free. But otherwise, indeed, you just need to tell MsueScore where you put it, when it asks.

I'm running Windows 8.1, and I downloaded and ran Lame_v3.99.3_for_Windows.exe. It gave me two copies of lame_enc.dll, one in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Lame for Audacity" and one in C;\Windows\SysWOW64. I think the latter location is probably where MuseScore found it, and it happened automatically because MuseScore never prompted me for its location.
