Hiding a staff leaves an empty space
Since you must set up the score with the staves already in place throughout, whether they're initially being used or not, the unused staves have to made invisible. These hidden staves still leave empty chunks on the page that take up valuable space on the score, and also leave black lines on the left edge of where they're supposed to be.
How do I fix this?
There is a polyphonic section in a piece I'm working on, so I must add a third staff midway.
I am using ver 1.2
EDIT: image was uploaded, and also updated to 1.3
Yep, I have. No change.

- Upgrade to 1.3
- Attach your score, if you will.

I need the third staff for the midsection of the piece, but not for the beginning. Musescore doesn't allow you to add it midway; it must be present throughout. So, when I hide it, it leaves the gap and black line that can't be removed.

Oh, I see what you did.
How did you set the instrument to invisible?

Imagine;-)
New score:
Instrument> Piano (1);
Add new instrument> Piano (2);
With the commands Add / Delete (middle column) eliminates the bass clef in the Piano 1.
After: hide empty staves
If you've already written a lot, you can do the same operations on the open score.

Strange workaround, but it was successful. I never would have thought of that.
Thank you so much for your help, Shoichi.

MsS is full of surprises, I'm happy for you, good music.

The good news is: that workaround won't be needed in 2.0 anymore.
There 'hide empty staves' works even on multi-stave instruments and can get switched of for the 1st system
