Double-click chord diagram to edit
I have a few requests regarding chord diagrams that I'd like to make,
but one that would be very simple to implement would be a double-click on a
chord diagram that would immediately bring up the Fretboard Diagram Properties window.
This would save a lot of time.

You can access and edit these Fretboard Diagram Properties in another way:
So: open Inspector (shortcut F8) -> select a diagram, then click on "Properties" button (in Inspector)

Thanks cadiz I didn't know about this feature.
However it isn't any faster than what I was doing:
I was right-clicking the diagram then choosing Fretboard Diagrams (which is at the bottom
of the list).

Okay, I understand. But whatever the method, I think the best time saver, when the diagram is edited, will be to put it in a palette for re-using later. You surely have a favorite music style and chords suited to this style. So once these diagrams are displayed as you want and installed in the palette, you will never have to do it again. This is the best investment you can make.
Of course, one can imagine one day a complete feature of chord diagrams as in Guitar Pro. But we are not there yet.

Very good point.
As I mentioned at the top I have several items that I would like to see implemented if possible, re: chord diagrams.
If I could add custom fretboard diagram palettes that were easy to use/organize, they would be the quickest way for me to enter chord diagrams onto the score.
By "easy to use" I mean having the option to label the palette diagrams with names such as:
C, C7, CMaj7, CmMaj7, CMaj7b5 etc.
The next request would be to have the diagram added to the score after a note/chord name was selected and the Fretboard diagram was clicked.
This would be much easier than having to always drag the chord onto the score and position it.

Already possible. Create custom palettes. See in handbook : https://musescore.org/en/handbook/palette#custom-palettes

Yes cadiz I am aware of this. I should have put the easy to use/organize in BOLD. :)

Unuseful to have to drag. Select a note -> double-click on the diagram in the palette.
This being done, complementary way, you can copy-paste, or duplicate these diagrams onto the score.

Thanks again cadiz. :)
I didn't know about this feature.
This will save much time.
Is it possible to set the precise location where chords are placed with this procedure?
For example down a few millimeters from the default?

In Style -> General -> Chords symbols / Fretboard diagrams, you can set the default vertical position (Fretboard diagrams section, at the bottom of the page), among other settings.
The default position value is 2,00. So, try 1.50 more or less, depending your wish.
Also, through the Inspector, but afterwards, you can change the horizontal and vertical offsets, after doing right-click on a diagram -> select all similar elements.

Thanks again cadiz, this will save a lot of time. I have been manually re-positioning all of my chord diagrams.
When I create a new chord diagram, is there also a shortcut to add it to the palette or must I drag it there?

As mentioned, dragging is virtually never necessary - all palette items can be applied via double click.
I agree eventually it would be good to be able to add chord symbols to the fret diagrams right in the palette. But do note you can name the palette cells so the name appears when hovering the mouse.
For the next release, as I believe you know, it will be possible to add chord symbols to fretboard diagrams and vice versa, in the score itself. That is, it will work to click a chord symbol then double click a fretboard diagram in palette.

>As mentioned, dragging is virtually never necessary - all palette items can be applied via double >click.
I don't think you understood my question.
I was talking about going in the reverse direction.
You have clicked a note, then selected a chord diagram in the palette by double-clicking on it.
The diagram appears over the correct note.
You then modify/edit the chord diagram (create a new diagram) and want to add it to the palette.
Must you now drag it to the palette or is there a shortcut to accomplish this?
In reply to >As mentioned, dragging is by ScoreMark
You currently have to drag it to the custom palette.
There is work in progress that should logically make a shortcut possible. It would not come out before version 3.0 though (no time soon).

OK thanks for letting me know mike.
As is the case with many items in MuseScore, double clicking puts them into edit mode, this allows you to precisely place them.

Is there a special setting in MS that I need to activate in order to achieve this mike?
Right now when I double-click on the diagram nothing happens.

That's not true. It goes into edit mode, allowing you to position it with the cursor keys - a very important function used extensively and consistently throughout MuseScore.

OK thanks Marc I didn't know this.
I have been positioning the diagrams with the mouse which is clumsy in comparison.
While I do feel we should keep things consistent so double-click puts things in edit mode, I also see how it would be nice to have a more intuitive way to edit fretboard diagrams. Like maybe a special handle appears once you are in edit mode, and clicking that opens the dialog? I don't know, that's probably still awkward. A direct shortcut for "Fretboard diagram properties" would be use I guess. I wonder though if there aren't other elements where this could be useful? Like, to access volta properties etc. Something like "Shift+Enter" to invoke the properties dialog for any element. Although for 3.0, I guess msot of the properties dialogs are moving to the Inspector, so maybe that's moot.

Thanks for replying Marc.
I'm just hoping that the simplest/quickest way is implemented.
That would be double-clicking on the diagram.
Clicking on the diagram and then hitting Shift+Enter would not be as efficient (moving from mouse to keyboard) than what we now have (click and select from menu).
If it can't be implemented, then I would opt for moving the Fretboard Diagram Properties to the top of the list in the Fretboard Diagram pop-up window. This would make its selection much easier.

Right, but as already noted, this conflicts with the very important function double click already has - putting you into Edit mode. If we co-opted double click for this one element type, then you'd need a different way to go to edit mode, which would be even worse.
So again, I agree an easier way than right click would be nice, but the trick would be defining one that felt more consistent with the rest of MuseScore. That's why i suggested maybe implementing a specific shortcut to get to the properties dialog for *any* element that has one.
BTW, it's already just a couple of keystrokes to get to this at the bottom of the list - just press "up" a couple of times. There is a standardized order for these things, so breaking that by moving this to the top would not be good either. But a clever optimization could be to position the dialog such that this item was positioned where the mouse pointer is, rather than positioning the top of the dialog there.
In reply to Right, but as already noted, by Marc Sabatella
I see your point about co-opting the double click for one element type.
Perhaps 'Shift-double click' or 'Ctrl-double click' to jump to the Fretboard Diagrams Properties pop-up?
>BTW, it's already just a couple of keystrokes to get to this at the bottom of the list - just press >"up" a couple of times.
This is not a fast as simply right-clicking and then selecting the item with the mouse.
>But a clever optimization could be to position the dialog such that this item was positioned >where the mouse pointer is, rather than positioning the top of the dialog there.
Could you explain exactly how I could do this?
If I right click on a chord diagram, the Fretboard Diagrams Properties box always pops up at the same location.
In reply to I see your point about by ScoreMark
I mean, a clever optimization a sufficiently motivated programmer could implement for a future release, not something currently possible for a user to do with 2.1.
