Wikifonia
wikifonia.org had problems several months ago. It now seems to have died completely. There are no admin responses on their Facebook page.
Does anyone know what is happening?
Does anyone know any contact for the people who ran wikifonia?

This is the original website: http://www.wikifonia.org/ now closed due to copyrights problems.
Some history can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikifonia
Links to the original "Wikifonia.zip" can be found all around the internet (just search). It contains ca 6632 songs. A lot of rubbish as well. And several doubles apparently from some user experiments. Nevertheless a lot of usefull stuff I guess. Since I wanted to create a more direct view for "iPad" users I did some updating! From the end result I've created a MSCZ-Wikfonia-Songs #-Z.zip file. The link to that result can be found here which includes all 6632 files:
https://www.sugarsync.com/pf/D7389688_4167795_9692714
Since the original Wikifonia.zip file contains MXL file formatted stuff but also some mistakes in extensions I created an updated file so all songs are shown with a correct mxl extension and I needed to do some renaming to prevent equally named files beïng created. The result is called: MXL (Composers)-org.zip. Since the original songs start with composers names and searching is often done (at least by me) via song names I created a list without composers names by just deleting those and additionally I decrompressed it to XML (a slightly different action compared to unzip!) into: XML (Songs)-org.zip. Then I reformatted all files a little bit (all batch mode actions) to the same size tuned for iPad screen size (and optimal Sibelius import use) showing the title and composer names on top, but most important correcting all chord names into the correct musicXML format in order to be able to transpose the stuff in the app "Avid Scorch". It is named MXL-Wikifonia-Songs #-Z improved.zip. For MuseScore users with an PC or the MuseScore app for the "Androïd" operating systems the mxl has been batch converted into a file: MSCZ-Wikifonia-Songs #-Z.zip. And at the same time a PDF format readable for any PDF reader (remember: all margins are reduced for tablet use! You don't want to waste trees, do you!) named as PDF-Wikifonia-Songs #-Z.zip. If you are interested in one of those formats contact me it is all free available.

I just want to say thank you for all the hard work you did to create these files in a manner that we can have these songs on our desktop.
I am only an average computer user and followed the stages pretty well first time.
Many thanks
sort of PS and not at all sure about the legality of my question, but I have a lot of digitized fake books, is there any way I can get these into MXL and add to Wiki db that i have?
Many thanks (again!)

My data-base contains over 160 fake pdf books, all books are indexed (bookmarked) by me so they are searchable for song names and they can be used in any PDF reader for direct access. So they can be searched for song names in the iPad apps iGiGBook, forScore and any other PDF reader at your iPad ( or PC). The data-base is free. If you like access let me know. Converting them into musicXML is hardly an option since my experience is that all "scanned music" to musicXML (or any other format) I know of make a mess of it, nevertheless what they suggest.

Rob,
I appreciate the time & effort you have put in.
I was about to do a conversion to pdf from the MXL data but as I was always taught" why reinvent the wheel."
I would very much appreciate a copy of PDF-Wikifonia-Songs #-Z.zip.

Thanks

Good work, well done. Thanks Rob. It's even more valuable as Wikifonia ist not available anymore. But I have a question: When I open the Wikifonia .mscz files in MuseScore 2.0 the song title always stands alone on the first page, the score starts on the second page. How can I change this? With the BIAB files this is not the case.
Hi Rob,
Wow, you have done a great job!
Would it be possible you can send me a copy of PDF-Wikifonia-Songs #-Z.zip. ??
I really would appreciate that.
